It’s old news, but new to me and maybe new to you American roadracing girls out there, but Nina Prinz has been rocking roadracing’s European Women’s Championship, officially sanctioned by FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), for the past three years, this past year on a factory supported R1.
She’s tall, blonde and German, and is the first female roadracer to be fully supported by Yamaha (they also support 2007 FIM Motocross Women’s World Cup champion Katherine Prumm from New Zealand). A successful junior career against both boys and girls led Nina to racing with IDM Superbike and then the European Womens’ Championship in 2006. She dominated the series in 2007 and clinched the championship again in 2008.
Says Laurens Klein Koerkamp, Yamaha Motor Europe Racing Division Manager, “Yamaha’s support of [Nina’s] racing career is a great example of the importance we place on having women involved in motorcycling. We will continue to reach out to this sector of the market and nurture its development.â€
And according to a statement from Yamaha, “both Nina and Katherine hope to continue their success with Yamaha and contribute to the increasing popularity of female motorcycle riding and competition.”
So do we, Yamaha. So do we!
