Imagine if one of your close friends was Jodie York, and you’d seen her win three championships in one year at the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club. York exhibited the kind of female talent in the late nineties that people still talk about years later; and perhaps having a girlfriend out there racing motorcycles and winning, repeatedly, against men, might make a girl more likely to try racing. Or track days, if she already rocks a bike. Or riding, if she hasn’t made that leap yet.
Jodie’s friend Tania Davidson, a clinical psychologist from Vista, California, found tremendous inspiration in Jodie and got her first taste of speed trying out the then “new†track at Buttonwillow in 1997, but as the mountainous endeavor of racing takes time, money, help and of course, determination, she didn’t join the racing fray until years later in early 2006. Repeated viewings of the beloved motorcycle racing movie Faster only added fuel to the fire.
Last weekend Tania was the fastest female racing at Big Willow with the WSMC! In 2009 Tania’s goals include achieving a top 3 standing in Senior Superbike with WERA, top 3 with the WSMC’s Formula 40, and to break the 1:30 lap time barrier at Willow Springs. Setting and accomplishing goals is one of the things Tania loves most about racing, that, and getting “in the groove†during a race.
When she’s not racing Tania loves playing her guitar, backpacking, sailing, reading and learning. Her race day diet includes oatmeal for breakfast, peanut butter sandwiches later in the day, the occasional Muscle Milk and of course, loads of water.
Good luck Tania, I hope you have an awesome year!
