It was the Angie show again in Vegas for WERA West’s second round.

Angie Loy coming to Vegas to beat us all up.
On Saturday she came in fourth of sixteen racers in the heavyweight solo 20, a grueling 20 lap solo endurance race, followed closely by Melissa Paris in 5th. First thing Sunday morning she duked it out with Melissa again in the Women’s C Superstock Expert race, finishing first. She landed a third place finish in C Superbike Expert, and then impressively led the B Superbike Expert race for the majority of the race. I’m not sure exactly how these things work, and I wasn’t there to see it happen because I had to go get ready for my last race, but I heard that she passed under a yellow flag and was docked 30 seconds from her finish, dropping her back from first to sixth place. Still, watching the first half of her race as she got the holeshot with a pack of thundering motorcycles chasing behind her, like greyhounds chasing the bunny, I was completely, and totally, in awe.
Melissa Paris rode extremely well all weekend and put in some very impressive finishes also. I love seeing chicks at the front of the pack! She also came in with one of the top 15 laptimes at Fast Lap Go Karts Saturday night, way to go!
The fastest girl laptime this weekend was an awesome 1:19.963, set by Angie during her 3rd place finish in C Superbike Expert. I would suppose that the fastest female laptime ever set at Vegas was done just recently by Elena Myers in November, when she won C Superbike Expert with a 1:18.881. Elena was rippin’ it up in the go karts Saturday too, but wasn’t seen out at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
I spy: a new girl racer hanging out at WERA races! Marisol Lacour was riding around during practice at Fontana a few weeks ago on her stock SV650 but didn’t race; this weekend she got out there and diced it up with everyone. I believe Marisol is only 13 or 14. So cool! Good job Marisol and I hope to see you at more events!
Joy Higa tried something new this weekend, racing Zoran Vujasinovic’s Suzuki SV500 in D Superbike, in addition to racing her R6 in all the other usual races. How’d it go, Joy? A bit slower bike than what you’re used to, I’d imagine. All in all we had nine ladies out there racing bikes, a great turnout on a great weekend!
