OMG WTF: A Women’s Class with WERA?

Completely last minute and under the radar, WERA has added a Women’s C Superstock (WSS) class to its WERA West division for 2009. Although some have expressed disappointment at the restrictive nature of the class (no 750s, no liter bikes, no modified SVs), it’s a pretty exciting step for us roadracing gals on the west coast. For years we’ve heard of and seen these bad ass, awesome Canadian roadracing chicks kicking butt up north in the Pro Honda Oils Women’s Cup Challenge, making a name for themselves and earning contingency, and we’ve just been down here slogging through the mid pack on huge grids with the AFM and WERA. I’m sure we’ll continue to cheerfully slog through, those of us who haven’t risen to the front of the pack (yet), but now having the opportunity to play with those of our own kind will be super fun!

The first race of the Women’s C Superstock WERA West series is this weekend; January 3 and 4, at California Speedway. Good luck ladies!
